(1) Station the special sea and anchor detail. All shipboard<br />

personnel report to their stations.<br />

(2) When all personnel are on station and ready to get<br />

underway, make manned and ready reports to the bridge via<br />

sound-powered phones.<br />

(3) Sound-powered phone talkers must establish communications<br />

(i.e., perform phone checks) between their station and the<br />

bridge.<br />

(4) Remove bird’s nest.<br />

(a) Line captain orders shipboard line handlers to remove<br />

bird’s nest down to figure-eight turns and fake line<br />

down on deck.<br />

(b) CAUTION: Removing the figure-eight turns will let the<br />

doubled section go slack and can cause snapback<br />

condition on all lines.<br />

(5) Single up all lines.<br />

(a) Order received through sound-powered phones, given to<br />

POIC, and relayed to line captain. Line captain<br />

acknowledges order.<br />

(b) Line captain orders ship line handlers, “Remove figure<br />

eights and round turn slack line.” When there is<br />

enough slack to remove line from bollard, order,<br />

“Avast slack.”<br />

(c) Line captain orders pier line handlers, “Cast off line<br />

#.” Pier line handlers remove the dipped eye from the<br />

bollard.<br />

(d) Line captain orders ship line handlers, "Heave around<br />

line #."<br />

(e) When line is through chock, line captain makes report<br />

to the POIC, “Line # singled up.”<br />

(f) POIC relays message to OOD on bridge via sound-powered<br />

phone talker<br />

(g) Line captain orders, "Fake down line.”<br />

(6) Take in all lines.<br />

(a) Order received through sound-powered phones, given to<br />

POIC, and relayed to line captain. Line captain<br />

acknowledges order.<br />
