proper military authority for identification,<br />

investigation, or while in disciplinary confinement.<br />

(3) ID tags<br />

(a) Prescribed part of the uniform and must be kept in<br />

your possession.<br />

(b) Designed for the identification of members who become<br />

casualties.<br />

(c) Are not worn under normal situations.<br />

(4) Sunglasses<br />

(a) If worn while in uniform, must be conservative.<br />

faddish or distracting styles are unauthorized (e.g.,<br />

Oakleys, mirrored lenses, etc.)<br />

(b) Are never worn while in formation.<br />

(c) Retainer straps are only worn if they are required for<br />

safety purposes. If worn, they shall be plain black<br />

and worn snugly against the back of the head.<br />

6. Regulations for Wearing Civilian Clothing, Drug Depiction, and Tattoos<br />

a. Civilian clothing is permitted when authorized by the <strong>Command</strong>ing<br />

Officer in situations such as when:<br />

(1) Leaving or returning to ships or stations.<br />

(2) On authorized leave of absences.<br />

(3) On liberty.<br />

(4) In off duty status ashore.<br />

b. <strong>Command</strong>s are authorized to suspend the privilege of civilian<br />

clothing for individuals:<br />

(1) Who do not wear civilian clothing as outlined in the United<br />

States <strong>Navy</strong> Uniform Regulations.<br />

(2) Who fail to properly maintain uniforms or seabag<br />

requirements.<br />

(3) Whose appearance may bring discredit upon the <strong>Navy</strong>.<br />

c. Casual civilian clothing is only authorized on base for occasions<br />

such as picnics, athletic events, and other casual daytime<br />

activities. Otherwise, they are NOT acceptable within the<br />

confines of military installations. For example:<br />
