4. Halon 1301 Fire Extinguishing System<br />

a. Purpose--Protects machinery spaces and flammable liquid storage<br />

rooms from class “____________” fires that cannot be extinguished<br />

by initial watchstander actions.<br />

b. Components<br />

(1) CO2 cylinder--Stores CO2; CO2 is used to activate the Halon<br />

system.<br />

(2) ____________/____________ alarms--Warn personnel the Halon<br />

system has been activated.<br />

(3) Time delay device--Delays the release of Halon for 30<br />

seconds (non-machinery spaces) or 60 seconds (machinery<br />

spaces) to allow time to secure the space and ventilation<br />

to shut down.<br />

(4) Halon cylinders--Store Halon 1301.<br />

5. Firemain System<br />

(1) Evacuate the space when the Halon system activated alarm<br />

sounds.<br />

(a) Halon produces toxic gases upon contact with flames or<br />

surfaces above 900° F.<br />

(b) <strong>The</strong> release of Halon causes air turbulence,<br />

temperature.<br />

(2) Do NOT enter a space flooded with Halon without wearing an<br />

OBA/SCBA.<br />
