d. A watchstander has many responsibilities.<br />

3. Types of Orders<br />

(1) For new watchstanders, apply yourself to training on the<br />

requirements of the watch using the Personnel Qualification<br />

Standards program.<br />

(2) Report to your watchstation 30 minutes before assigned<br />

watch time.<br />

(a) <strong>The</strong> first 15 minutes are used to receive information<br />

from the off-going watchstander.<br />

(b) <strong>The</strong> watch is assumed 15 minutes before assigned watch<br />

time.<br />

(3) Use customary <strong>Navy</strong> terminology when writing reports and<br />

talking to others.<br />

(4) Answer the telephone using proper procedures. Most<br />

telephone systems are not secure; anyone could be<br />

listening. <strong>The</strong>refore, do not discuss or "talk around"<br />

classified information.<br />

(5) Take appropriate action for any emergency; e.g., fire,<br />

flooding, or bomb threat.<br />

(6) Remain at your watchstation until relieved.<br />

(7) Follow all legal orders.<br />

a. General orders<br />

(1) Cover routine and foreseeable situations.<br />

(2) Same for all watchstanders.<br />

(3) Never change.<br />

b. Special orders<br />

(1) Cover a certain time or situation.<br />

(2) Cover specifics of a particular post.<br />

(3) May be written or verbal.<br />

(a) written orders<br />

1 Remain in effect until canceled or changed.<br />

2 Are called "Standing Orders."<br />
