OUTLINE SHEET 1-14-1 (continued)
b. Purpose and characteristics of SCBA components
(1) Cylinder
(a) Depending on the type, stores a __________ or
__________-minute supply of compressed air.
(b) Rechargeable.
(2) Cylinder valve--When open, allows airflow through the
apparatus.
(3) Cylinder pressure indicator--Indicates air __________ in
the cylinder.
(4) Remote pressure indicator
(a) With the cylinder valve open, indicates air cylinder
pressure.
(b) Located on the __________ straps so the SCBA user can
easily read the cylinder pressure.
(5) Alarm (Vibralert)-- __________ and __________ when the
compressed air supply in the cylinder goes down to 20 to
25% of capacity.
(6) __________-stage regulator--Reduces pressure of the air
flowing from the cylinder into the breathing apparatus from
4500 psig to 100 psig.
(7) __________-stage regulator--Maintains a positive pressure
of breathable air (0.05 psi) in the facepiece at all times.
(8) Purge valve
(a) In case of __________-__________ regulator failure,
can be manually opened to override the second-stage
regulator to provide a constant flow of air to the
facepiece.
(b) When securing the SCBA, can be __________ opened to
__________ (purge) air from the system.
(c) Color-coded red.
(9) Air saver switch
(a) Located on __________ of the second-stage regulator.
