(b) A mustache shall NOT go:<br />

1 Beyond a horizontal line extending across the<br />

corners of the mouth.<br />

2 More than ¼” beyond a vertical line drawn from<br />

the corner of the mouth.<br />

(c) Handlebar mustaches, goatees, beards, or<br />

eccentricities are NOT permitted.<br />

(8) A beard may only be worn for medical reasons when<br />

authorized by the <strong>Command</strong>ing Officer on the advice of a<br />

medical officer.<br />

d. Hair standards for women<br />

(1) When wearing collared uniforms, the hair may touch, but not<br />

fall below a horizontal line level with the lower edge of<br />

the back of the collar.<br />

(2) When wearing the jumper uniform (crackerjacks), hair may<br />

extend a maximum of 1½” below the top of the jumper collar.<br />

(3) Hair shall not show under the front of the brim of the:<br />

(a) Combination hat<br />

(b) Garrison cap<br />

(c) <strong>Navy</strong>/<strong>Command</strong> ball cap<br />

(4) Hairstyles with multiple braids may be worn; (corn rows,<br />

French braids, etc.).<br />

(a) Braids shall be approximately ¼ inch in diameter and<br />

tightly woven.<br />

(b) Foreign material, such as beads and decorative items,<br />

shall not be braided into the hair.<br />

(5) Ponytails, pigtails, and widely spaced, individual hanging<br />

locks are not permitted.<br />

(6) Appropriateness of hairstyle is also judged by its<br />

appearance when headgear is worn.<br />

(7) Long hair, including braids, must:<br />

(a) Be neatly and inconspicuously fastened, pinned, or<br />

secured to the head and may not dangle free at any<br />

point.<br />

(b) Not be lopsided or extremely asymmetrical.<br />
