(3) Steps for recording late entries:<br />

g. Ending a page<br />

(a) In the left margin corresponding to where the entry<br />

should have been, place an asterisk (*).<br />

(b) Enter the "late entry" on the next available line and<br />

place another asterisk in the left margin.<br />

(c) Put the original time the event took place followed by<br />

the information.<br />

(1) Frequently, the end of a 24-hour day will not be at the<br />

bottom of a log page.<br />

(2) From the bottom right of the last line of information, draw<br />

a diagonal line to the lower left corner of the page.<br />

(3) Print on the diagonal line "NO FURTHER ENTRIES THIS PAGE"<br />

and initial the entry.<br />

7. Duties and Responsibilities of Watches<br />

a. Fire watch<br />

(1) A fire watch is stationed near workers that are welding or<br />

cutting through metal with a torch to detect and extinguish<br />

any fire that might ignite.<br />

(2) <strong>The</strong> watchstander must remain alert at all times and be<br />

prepared to sound the alarm and extinguish a fire.<br />

b. Engineering watches<br />

(1) Engineering watchstanders operate and monitor readings on<br />

engineering machinery.<br />

(2) Watchstanders must remain alert for problems that could<br />

cause equipment failure, fire, or flooding.<br />

c. Bridge watch team<br />

(1) A group of watchstanders that ensure underway safety,<br />

navigation, and communications, for example:<br />

(a) Helmsman--Steers the ship.<br />

(b) Lee helmsman—Controls the speed of the ship; i.e., the<br />

main propulsion engines<br />

(c) Lookouts<br />
