Felix and Lucy are married and have been living together for six
years. One night Lucy tells Felix that she is leaving him and going
abroad to work. Felix is distraught. The clock goes back. Felix is
living at home with his paralysed father and his unhappy, hysterical
mother. He finds out two things: that his mother is being unfaithful
to his father and that his father knows this. Present day. Felix
learns that Lucy has fallen in love with a stranger who works at the
ice rink. He realises that Lucy is using this as an excuse to make
their separation easier. However, Lucy refuses to open her eyes. She
chooses illusion and abandons reality. Felix descends into loneliness
and despair. He wanders purposelessly around the supermarket that
he and Lucy used to frequent not so long ago. He makes passes at
women. Felix’s adolescence. Night time. Felix and his father are
lying in their beds, listening to the mother bring a man to her room.
Felix is overcome with hatred for his mother. His father teaches him
to forgive. The present: keeping his promise to his now deceased
father, Felix takes his mother to the sea. They remember the past.
The mother confesses that the only man she ever loved was Felix’s
father. The clock turns back one last time. Felix’s father dies. He
asks his wife to give him her hand. When she does, it is too late. This
play is about the painful, sometimes moral, quest for love and about
how difficult it is to forgive.
Felix et Lucy sont mariés depuis six ans. Mais Lucy apprend à
Felix qu’elle le quitte pour aller travailler à l’étranger. Une nouvelle
désagréable pour Felix. Suit un flash-back: Felix adolescent vit
avec son père paralysé et sa mère malheureuse et hystérique. Il
découvre deux choses: que sa mère trompe son père et que son père
le sait. Présent: Felix apprend que Lucy est tombée amoureuse
d’un étranger qui travaille comme loueur de patins. Il réalise que
Lucy a fait naître cette passion en elle-même seulement pour lui
faciliter un départ. Mais Lucy ne veut pas voir les choses en face.
Elle a choisi l’illusion et a abandonné la réalité : L’étranger ne
connaît même pas Lucy et n’a aucune idée de sa passion secrète.
Abandonné, Felix devient fou de solitude et de désespoir. Il erre
dans le supermarché où il avait l’habitude d’aller avec Lucy et y
cherche des aventures. L’adolescence de Felix : Nuit. Felix et son
père sont couchés et entendent la mère ramener un homme à la
maison. Felix est tourmenté par la haine contre sa mère. Le père lui
apprend à pardonner. Comme il l’a promis à son père décédé, Felix
emmène sa mère à la mer. Ils se souviennent du passé. La mère
avoue qu’elle n’a toujours aimé que le père de Felix. Oscillant entre
le passé et le présent, cette pièce a comme sujet une quête d’amour
douloureuse, le tourment de la haine et le chemin difficile vers le
pardon.
