The aged and infirm Vojenová lives in a house outside town with
her servant Beáta. Beáta is preparing the supper which Vojenová
regularly organises for six bereaved women on the anniversary of
a fatal event. Like Vojenová, they are widows following the tragic
accident years before which killed their husbands. Each of the
bizarre little women lives in their own strange world, linked to the
‘big world’ only through the media and fragments of their guidelines
to happiness. The strange and even heroic behaviour of Vojenová
and the sudden death of one of the guests’ cat awakens suspicions in
the women that the supper was poisoned. Imprisoned in the house,
they urge one another to make final grotesque confessions...
La veuve Vojenová, vieille et infirme, vit dans une maison à
l’extérieur de la ville avec sa servante Beáta, un foudroyant
conducteur de ses sarcasmes. Beáta prépare le repas que Vojenová
organise régulièrement pour six femmes veuves à l’occasion
de l’anniversaire d’un accident tragique : il y a des années, un
échafaudage s’est écroulé tuant leurs maris. Chacune de ces
bizarres petites vieilles vit dans son propre monde particulier qui
n’est lié au « grand monde » que par les médias et des fragments
de leurs lignes de conduite vers le bonheur. Le comportement
étrange et même héroïque de Vojenová et la mort soudaine d’un
chat font naître des soupçons aux femmes, à savoir que le repas
a été empoisonné. Enfermées dans la maison, elles se poussent
mutuellement à d’ultimes aveux grotesques.
