The play is set in a time of transition, after the Balkan wars. One
night two men meet two women in a bar. Somewhere between Eros
and Thanatos, the play explores their present and past relationships.
Lucky is a puppeteer who doesn’t know who he is anymore. Tricky
is a magician whose tricks are no longer successful. Lilly is a
prostitute who was once in love with Lucky. Little One is a young
girl trying to find out who she really is for herself. All of them are
bisexual. They are all eager for something new, something else.
Deep down, all four of them are unhappy and lost. The action takes
place over one night, in a non-linear way, giving the audience the
opportunity to piece together this strange puzzle... The night comes
to a simple end, when a bomb explodes, killing all four characters.
This is not a typical narrative about the wars in the Balkan region.
Rather the play preoccupies itself with the ordinary man, who is
lost, crushed, marginalized and underestimated, and denied any
opportunity to express his needs, feelings and fears.
Après la guerre des Balkans. Une nuit, deux hommes et deux
femmes se rencontrent dans un bar. La pièce montre leurs relations
passées et présentes dans un jeu qui associe Eros et Thanatos.
Tous les quatre sont bisexuels, ils cherchent quelque chose de
nouveau, ils sont malheureux et perdus. Dejan Dukovski situe sa
pièce dans une seule nuit, mais dans des mondes parallèles sans
ordre chronologique. C’est au public de reconstruire ce puzzle
étrange pour savoir ce qui s’est passé et quand... La nuit se
termine simplement par l’explosion d’une bombe qui tue les quatre
personnages. L’autre côté n’est pas une pièce typique sur la guerre
des Balkans, elle s’intéresse bien plus à l’homme ordinaire, perdu,
marginalisé, sous-estimé, écrasé et sans possibilité d’exprimer ses
besoins, ses sentiments et ses angoisses.
