The title D.J. codifies various interpretations which are ingeniously
intertwined by the author in this postmodern game. ‘A light play
with low nicotine and tar content’ and ‘a theatrical scratch’ are
two of the definitions of the play which give an idea of Guergui
Gospodinov’s ability to mix and entertain through an alert and
ironic intellectual game. The initials D.J. hide the name Don Juan,
and the play D.J. makes contemporary associations with the myth.
Molière’s Don Juan doesn’t make any appearance. His D.J. spirit
exists as the character of a Latin American soap opera, but also as
a smoker among those who refuse to smoke or as a lover among
those who refuse love... Is it the fear of the inevitable afterwards
which puts the end before the beginning?... Can one read classic
heritage as a pop culture hit from the 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th
centuries? The author leaves every director the freedom to scratch
and mix different eras, cultures, fates and loves. Don Juan or
tobacco, disco fashion or love, eroticism or mortal boredom with
everyday life – with his play, as with his poetry and prose,
G. Gospodinov manages to show the other side of triviality in a way
that makes us think that we have discovered it ourselves.
Le titre D.J. codifie diverses interprétations ingénieusement
entremêlées par l’auteur dans ce jeu postmoderne. « Une pièce light
avec une faible contenance de nicotine et de goudron » et
« un scretch théâtral » sont deux des définitions données à la
pièce qui procure une idée de la capacité de Guergui Gospodinov à
mixer et divertir au moyen d’un jeu intellectuel, alerte et ironique.
Si l’abréviation DJ cache le nom de Don Juan, la pièce D.J. fait
des associations contemporaines avec le mythe. Don Juan de
Molière n’y apparaît pas du tout. Son esprit DJ existe en tant
que personnage d’un feuilleton TV d’Amérique Latine, mais aussi
en tant que fumeur parmi ceux qui refusent de fumer ou en tant
qu’amant parmi ceux qui refusent l’amour... Est-ce la peur de
l’inévitable après qui met la fin avant le début ?... Peut-on lire
l’héritage classique comme un hit de la culture pop du XVII,
XVIII, XIX et du XX siècle ? L’auteur laisse pleine liberté à chaque
metteur en scène de faire scratcher et mixer différentes époques,
cultures, destins et amours. Don Juan ou Le Tabac, la mode disco ou
l’amour, l’érotisme ou l’ennui mortel du quotidien – avec sa pièce
comme avec sa poésie et sa prose, G. Gospodinov arrive à montrer
l’autre visage de la trivialité d’une façon qui nous laisse penser que
nous l’avons découvert nous-même.
