Niebelung Resid<strong>en</strong>tial Park is inspired by Wagner and tells the<br />
story of the decline of potmodern society. Siegfried is a successful<br />
business man, and Brünhilde is the director of an art gallery.<br />
Hag<strong>en</strong>, a banker, reveals himself to be the ‘demon dwarf’ who, by<br />
unquestioningly executing Wotan’s wishes, brings this world to its<br />
destruction. The play <strong>en</strong>ds in a succession of catastrophes: a letter<br />
containing anthrax is delivered to the Niebelung Park, the ash<br />
tree in the rock gard<strong>en</strong> is mutilated with a chainsaw, the data on<br />
Siegfried’s computer is destroyed by a virus, a bomb explodes on<br />
a busy pub terrace and a package containing a deadly nerve gas is<br />
discovered on the tube... And finally, in an ev<strong>en</strong>t mirroring 9/11, one<br />
of the skyscrapers of the leading ‘Worms Company’ collapses.<br />
Niebelung Resid<strong>en</strong>tial Park s’inspire de la Tétralogie de Richard<br />
Wagner pour raconter la fin de notre monde post-moderne.<br />
Siegfried y est un grand homme d’affaires, alors que Brünnhilde est<br />
directrice d’une galerie d’art. Hag<strong>en</strong>, lui-même banquier, se révèle<br />
être un « nain démoniaque » qui, <strong>en</strong> exécutant les ordres de Wotan<br />
à la perfection, amène notre monde crépusculaire à sa destruction.<br />
La pièce se termine dans un <strong>en</strong>chaînem<strong>en</strong>t de catastrophes : Une<br />
lettre d’anthrax est apportée au Parc des Niebelung<strong>en</strong>, le frêne<br />
(qui est id<strong>en</strong>tique au mythologique arbre du monde nordique) au<br />
milieu du jardin alpin est mutilé avec une scie, les données dans<br />
l’ordinateur de Siegfried sont attaquées par un virus, une bombe<br />
éclate sur la terrasse bondée d’un pub et dans un wagon du métro<br />
on découvre un paquet cont<strong>en</strong>ant une substance neuroplégique<br />
mortelle... Et finalem<strong>en</strong>t, un événem<strong>en</strong>t similaire au 11 septembre<br />
se produit et provoque l’effondrem<strong>en</strong>t d’une tour de la « Worms<br />
Company ».
