A small post-war ev<strong>en</strong>ing party in a small town near the border.<br />
A settling of accounts with a respected German family. A terribly<br />
cruel play about things everyone would rather ignore. Fritz has<br />
invited his school fri<strong>en</strong>ds to his birthday: Mr Starosta, who has<br />
just returned from a conc<strong>en</strong>tration camp, a police repres<strong>en</strong>tative<br />
and other inhabitants from the border town of Postellberg. The war<br />
has <strong>en</strong>ded, but there is still hate in their hearts. Who is involved<br />
in the conspiracy against Fritz’s German family? Who came to<br />
celebrate and who came here for rev<strong>en</strong>ge? Bambušek’s heartr<strong>en</strong>ding<br />
Sudet<strong>en</strong>-German story follows three differ<strong>en</strong>t time lines,<br />
which sometimes interconnect and other times run parralel. With<br />
this structure, the author uses a terrifying symphony of voices to<br />
tell the story of those who experi<strong>en</strong>ced the purging of the war years.<br />
This is a play about the difficult return to normal life. The author<br />
replaces stage directions with today’s popular emotional indicators<br />
– ‘smilies’. Together these create the terrifying and grotesque<br />
atmosphere of Bambušek’s play.<br />
Une petite soirée festive après-guerre dans une petite ville à la<br />
frontière, une soirée de règlem<strong>en</strong>ts de compte avec une famille<br />
allemande respectée. Une pièce cruelle et terrible sur des choses<br />
dont tout le monde préférerait ne ri<strong>en</strong> savoir. Fritz fête son<br />
anniversaire et ses camarades d’école vi<strong>en</strong>n<strong>en</strong>t à la fête : M.<br />
Starostaqui qui est rev<strong>en</strong>u d’un camp de conc<strong>en</strong>tration, le<br />
représ<strong>en</strong>tant de la police et d’autres habitants de la ville frontière<br />
de Postellberg. La mère de Fritz leur sert de la viande de cheval et<br />
tout le monde se réjouit à l’idée que l’électricité sera réinstallée et<br />
qu’ils pourront écouter le grammophone. La guerre est finie, mais<br />
les torts et la haine rest<strong>en</strong>t dans leurs coeurs. Qui est impliqué<br />
dans la conspiration contre la famille allemande de Fritz? Qui est<br />
v<strong>en</strong>u pour fêter et qui pour réaliser l’acte terrible de la v<strong>en</strong>geance?<br />
L’histoire bouleversante des Allemands Sudètes est racontée par<br />
Bambušek sur trois niveaux de temps qui sont liés, se jou<strong>en</strong>t <strong>en</strong><br />
parallèle ou se mélang<strong>en</strong>t sans que l’auteur les distingue clairem<strong>en</strong>t.<br />
Il dessine ainsi une symphonie angoissante de voix de ceux qui<br />
on vécu la purge des années de guerre et montre à quel point il<br />
est difficile de retourner à une vie normale. L’auteur remplace les<br />
didascalies par les indicateurs d’émotion d’aujourd’hui – les<br />
« smilies ». Tous ces élém<strong>en</strong>ts cré<strong>en</strong>t une atmosphère terrifiante et<br />
grotesque.
