Bogu´s lives in a typical apartment block estate of a typical midsized
Polish city. Supported by his mother, a gas-plant worker, he
has dropped out of school, does not work and has no idea as to
what he wants to do with his life. The only thing he is sure of is that
he is angry with the whole world and he hates everyone: grownups,
fellow teenagers, the Church and priests. He feels cheated and
deprived of opportunities, unless he becomes... a revolutionary.
With the words ‘Fuck you!’ tattooed on his forehead, Bogu´s runs
around with a metal stick, damaging phone cabins, shop windows
and cars. Unfortunately, one of those, a costly Lexus, is owned by
dangerous gangsters. The boy will die unless the damage is paid. His
mother has no money; the ex-teacher cannot help either. Only the
parish priest says he will pay part of the debt. The apartment block
ballad ends happily thanks to Bogu´s’, his mother’s and the gangster
boss’ shared passion for sentimental songs by Krzysztof Krawczyk.
Like the artist, they want to believe that life can be better, more
beautiful, brightened up with love. No matter that for the moment,
the world is dominated by evil and violence. The comforting,
though banal and mawkish, message of this play comes from an
interesting depiction of an aspect of Polish social and economical
transformation, and Przemysław Wojcieszek has proved that he is
an attentive and talented observer – a witness of his time.
Bogu´s vit dans un quartier de grands immeubles d’une ville
moyenne typique de la Pologne. Entretenu par sa mère, une
ouvrière, il a abandonné l’école, ne travaille pas et n’a aucune idée
de ce qu’il pourrait faire de sa vie. Il est fâché avec la terre entière
et hait tout le monde : les adultes, ses camarades, l’église et les
curés. Il se sent dupé et privé de chance jusqu’au moment où il
devient... un révolutionnaire. Avec les mots « Fuck you ! » tatoués
sur son front, Bogu´s se promène avec une barre en métal et se
met à casser des cabines téléphoniques, des vitrines, des voitures.
Malheureusement, une d’elle, une Lexus très chère, appartient à un
gangster dangereux. Le garçon mourra s’il ne paie pas le dommage.
Sa mère n’a pas d’argent. Son ancien prof ne peut pas l’aider non
plus. Seulement le curé de la paroisse se déclare prêt à prendre en
charge une partie de la dette. La pièce se termine bien grâce à une
passion commune de Bogu´s, de sa mère et du chef des gangsters : la
passion pour les chansons sentimentales de Krzysztof Krawczyk. A
l’instar de l’artiste, ils veulent croire que la vie peut être meilleure,
plus belle, éclairée par l’amour. Le message réconfortant, bien que
banal et doucereux, de cette pièce dessine un portrait intéressant
d’un aspect de la transformation sociale et économique de la
Pologne. Przemysław Wojcieszek s’avère être un observateur
attentif et talentueux – un témoin de son temps.
