Three g<strong>en</strong>erations of strong wom<strong>en</strong> from a Latvian family meet up<br />
in the family home, in the Riga suburbs. Young Jasmine is married<br />
to Artis, an unsuccessful and insipid businessman. Because of his<br />
debts, Jasmine’s family home is in danger of being repossessed.<br />
Jasmine’s mother Laura has be<strong>en</strong> travelling around the world after<br />
an illness and has just returned with folk musician Mihael and<br />
his... two monkeys. Jasmine and Mihael fall in love, but in the <strong>en</strong>d,<br />
Mihael leaves with Laura. Jasmine and her grandmother Gertrude<br />
– who lives “in another reality” – are the only people in the play<br />
with a deep understanding of one another. The past shapes the<br />
pres<strong>en</strong>t and predicts the future. Is there any chance for Jasmine to<br />
escape the emotional and social trap she is caught in?<br />
Dans cette pièce, trois générations de femmes de fort caractère<br />
se r<strong>en</strong>contr<strong>en</strong>t dans leur maison familiale dans une banlieue de<br />
Riga. La jeune Jasmine est mariée avec Artis, un businessman<br />
râté. A cause de ses dettes, la maison familiale de Jasmine est<br />
m<strong>en</strong>acée. Après une grave maladie, la mère de Jasmine a fait<br />
le tour du monde et vi<strong>en</strong>t de r<strong>en</strong>trer au pays accompagnée de<br />
Mihael, un musici<strong>en</strong> populaire et... de ses deux singes. Jasmine<br />
et Mihael tomb<strong>en</strong>t amoureux l’un de l’autre, et pourtant, à la fin,<br />
Laura et Mihael part<strong>en</strong>t, laissant Jasmine seule. Jasmine et sa<br />
grand-mère Gertrude qui vit « dans une autre réalité » sont les<br />
seuls personnages de la pièce qui se compr<strong>en</strong>n<strong>en</strong>t mutuellem<strong>en</strong>t<br />
et profondém<strong>en</strong>t. <strong>Le</strong> passé prédit le prés<strong>en</strong>t et l’av<strong>en</strong>ir. Y a-t-il une<br />
chance pour que Jasmine puisse échapper au collet émotionnel et<br />
social où elle se trouve captivée ?
