In built-up areas, district heat pipelines had been laid in non-accessible heating ducts (hood/foundation slab, trough/cover slab) until plastic-jacket pipes were introduced. Due to the fact that the heating ducts provide neither walk-in access nor any crawlway, the current condition of both the structural envelope and the pipelines with their insulation is largely unknown. According to estimates, about 20,000 km of these ducts exist in Germany. As a result of their long exposure periods, structural damage has occurred in and at the ducts. In addition, the ducts are subject to live loads diff erent from those acting at the time of their construction. Damage patterns include concrete spalling, leaking joints and corrosion at sliding and fi xed supports. Utilities are usually interested in the continued operation of these ducts using either the existing pipelines or following a rehabilitation of the duct lines installing plastic-jacket pipes. In order to draw up appropriate, commercially viable plans for the operation of these networks, however, the assessment of their current condition is crucial and will also highlight related priorities to the utilities. At the same time, the structural condition of these hood-covered ducts is important for the planning of, for instance, crossing traffi c routes. To record their actual condition and to defi ne related repair and rehabilitation activities, these ducts need to be evaluated using a suitable inspection system. Currently used methods include excavations during works at lines that cross or approach each other, combined with a visual inspection carried out by an employee of the utility company. Another method is to drill a hole in the duct and to use a stethoscope to inspect the internal space. For this purpose, holes are drilled in the duct approx. every 20 meters, and its condition is documented. Due to the fact that the non-accessible heating ducts may include unexpected features such as caving-in, branches or junctions, sliding and fi xed supports, changes in direction, bottom or component off sets, defective insulation, construction waste, or open joints, it is not possible to access and inspect these ducts using the currently available camera equipment. To date, assessments of the duct condition have been carried out only for short sections and do not provide representative information at all. Under the head responsibility of the Forschungsinstitut für Tief- und Rohrleitungsbau Weimar (FITR; Weimar Research Institute for Civil Engineering and Pipeline Construction), an inspection device has been developed for such ducts together with other project partners. The prototype has been in use since June 2009. Several utilities rely on this system that is being off ered as a service. To date, non-accessible ducts in Dresden, Frankfurt/Main, Leipzig and Essen have been inspected. These inspections enabled conclusions to be drawn as to the structural condition of the ducts, which results in a more eff ective allocation of funds. The inspections carried out thus far resulted in useful information regarding modifi cations of the design and operation of this inspection device. As a result, an improved version is now available. Bis zur Einführung der Kunststoff -Mantel-Rohre (KMR- Rohre) wurden Fernwärmeleitungen in bebauten Bereichen vorwiegend in nicht begehbaren Heizkanälen (Haube/Bodenplatte, Trog/Abdeckplatte) verlegt. Aufgrund dessen, dass die Heizkanäle weder begeh- noch bekriechbar sind, ist der derzeitige Zustand der baulichen Hülle sowie der Rohrleitungen einschließlich der Isolierung weitgehend unbekannt. Nach Schätzungen gibt es in Deutschland ca. 20.000 km dieser Kanäle. Aufgrund der langen Liegezeit sind entsprechende bauliche Schäden in und an den Kanälen aufgetreten. Des Weiteren sind die Kanäle zwischenzeitlich anderen Verkehrsbelastungen als bei ihrer Erstellung ausgesetzt. Es treten Schäden in Form von Betonabplatzungen, Fugenundichtigkeiten und Gleit- und Festpunktlagerkorrosionen auf. Für die Versorger ist im Regelfall die weitere Betreibung dieser Kanäle einerseits mit den vorhandenen Leitungen, aber auch in Form der Trassensanierung mittels KMR-Rohren interessant. Um aber sinnvolle und wirtschaftliche Planungen für die Betreibung dieser Netze anstellen zu können, ist die Beurteilung des derzeitigen Zustandes von großer Bedeutung und zeigt den Versorgern auch entsprechende Prioritäten auf. Gleichzeitig sind bei der Planung z.B. neuer kreuzender Verkehrstrassen die baulichen Zustände dieser Haubenkanäle von Bedeutung. Zur Erfassung des Ist-Zustandes und zur Festlegung von Sanierungsmaßnahmen ist es erforderlich, diese Kanäle mit einem entsprechenden Inspektionssystem zu untersuchen. Derzeit gängige Methoden sind Aufgrabungen bei Arbeiten an kreuzenden bzw. sich nähernden Leitungen mit visueller Begutachtung durch einen Mitarbeiter des Netzbetreibers. Eine weitere Methode ist das Anbohren des Kanals und eine Begutachtung des Inneren mithilfe eines Stethoskops. Hierzu wird der Kanal ca. alle 20 m angebohrt und der Zustand dokumentiert. Auf Grund der Tatsache, dass in den nichtbegehbaren Heizkanälen Unwägbarkeiten in Form von Einbrüchen, Abzweigungen, Gleitlagern und Festpunkten, Richtungsänderungen, Sohlsprüngen, Elementeversatz, defekten Isolierungen, Bauschutt, off enen Fugen usw. vorhanden sind, ist es nicht möglich, diese Kanäle mit der momentan zur Verfügung stehenden Kameratechnik zu befahren. Die bisherige Zustandsbeurteilung erfolgt nur in kurzen Teilabschnitten und bildet in keiner Weise ein umfassendes Bild ab. Unter Federführung des Forschungsinstituts für Tief- und Rohrleitungsbau Weimar (FITR) erfolgte in Zusammenarbeit mit weiteren Partnern die Entwicklung eines Inspektionsgerätes für solche Kanäle. Das ursprüngliche Funktionsmuster befi ndet sich bereits seit Juni 2009 in Betrieb und wird von verschiedenen Versorgungsunternehmen als Dienstleistung genutzt. So wurden bisher nicht begehbare Kanäle in Dresden, Frankfurt/Main, Leipzig und Essen befahren. Aus diesen Befahrungen konnten Schlussfolgerungen auf die Baulichkeit der Kanäle gezogen werden, was somit für einen eff ektiveren Einsatz von Mitteln sorgt. Aus den bisherigen Befahrungen haben sich entsprechende Hinweise auf die Konstruktion und den Betrieb dieses Inspektionsgerätes ergeben, so dass nunmehr eine verbesserte Version zur Verfügung steht. <strong>BFT</strong> 02/2010
