VISUAL MANOEUVRING USING PRESCRIBED TRACK<br />

1. GENERAL<br />

1.1 In those locations where clearly defined visual features permit, <strong>and</strong> if it is operationally desirable, a specific<br />

track for visual manoeuvring may be prescribed (in addition to the circling area). This track should be included inside<br />

the limits <strong>of</strong> the circling area designed for the same aircraft categories. When it is not the case, the procedure should be<br />

named: “VISUAL approach procedure” instead <strong>of</strong> “VISUAL manoeuvering.”<br />

1.2 The visual features used to define the track <strong>and</strong> (if necessary) altitude changing points on the track may be<br />

complemented with radio fixes (i.e. VOR radial, DME distance, etc.). The tolerance <strong>of</strong> the radio fix must be equal to or<br />

better than the tolerance <strong>of</strong> the visual feature. A radio fix cannot be used if the corresponding visual feature does not<br />

exist.<br />

1.3 At the end <strong>of</strong> the visual manoeuvring track, a go-around procedure for a second prescribed track manoeuvring<br />

is provided. In some cases, the go-around procedure can join the instrument missed approach procedure.<br />

2. TRACK<br />

2.1 Several kinds <strong>of</strong> tracks have to be considered <strong>and</strong> the more common cases are illustrated in<br />

Figure I-4-7-App-1.<br />

2.2 Gathering together <strong>of</strong> the tracks. It is possible to develop one track for each aircraft category, but for the sake<br />

<strong>of</strong> simplicity, it is recommended that one track be used for all the categories or one for Cat A <strong>and</strong> B <strong>and</strong> another for Cat<br />

C, D, E, if this does not lead to operational constraints.<br />

2.3 Diverging point. This point must be defined with a clearly identifiable visual feature (complemented if<br />

necessary by a radio fix with a tolerance less than 0.5 NM, i.e. middle marker or DME distance).<br />

2.4 Diverging segment<br />

2.4.1 This segment joins the final instrument approach segment to the downwind leg <strong>of</strong> the prescribed track.<br />

In some cases, this segment can be replaced by a turn (see Figure I-4-7-App-1 e)) or an S-type manoeuvre (see<br />

Figure I-4-7-App-1 c)).<br />

2.4.2 In the case <strong>of</strong> Figure I-4-7-App-2, it is recommended that the end <strong>of</strong> the diverging segment occur before the<br />

point abeam the threshold used for the prescribed track.<br />
