Summary A major issue in Conwy is the development of appropriate Children and Young People's sevices. There needs to be a rationalisation of our schools provision
to ensure surplus capacity and small schools are withdrawn and high quality facilties are provided on accessible sites. There is a very significant lack of
affordable youth, recreation, leisure, cultural and sports facilities for children and young people. Children and young people should be consulted and asked to
help design the facilities they require locally.
Change Sought: In the town of Abergele where I live, I want children and young people to be fully consulted.
I want unsustainable small schools and surplus capacity removed urgently and the resources re-invested in childrens services including schools.
Summary There is reference made in the Deposit LDP Plan to various planning and policy groups and in the Housing Strategy to the Housing Strategy Forum,
Stakeholder events and the Rural Housing Enabler Project etc. It is not clear to what extent important community stakeholder groups have been represented
or consulted in each of these planning groups/Forums e.g. older people, disabled people etc.
Change Sought: To introduce into all CCBC policy and planning processes, a mechanism for triggering the involvement of key community stakeholder groups or individuals
when setting up Forums, stakeholder events or developing policies, plans, projects and assessments. This trigger should occur at the beginning of the policy
and planning process and should include a process for identifying the potential negative impact that a proposed project or plan might have on them.
Community stakeholders would include e.g. representatives from older people's groups, the Older People's Champion (Cllr Tony Tobin), the Older People's
Strategy Development Officer or Age Concern, in addition to other key stakeholder representatives. The Corporate Equalities Officer could also be included,
to ensure good representation.
