B. Finish Hardware Preparation
1. Prepare doors and frames to receive mortised and concealed finish hardware
in accordance with final Finish Hardware Schedule and templates provided by
hardware supplier. Comply with applicable requirements of ANSI A115 series
specifications for door and frame preparation for hardware.
2. Reinforce doors and frames to receive surface-applied hardware. Drilling and
tapping for surface-applied finish hardware may be done at project site.
3. Locate finish hardware as shown on final shop drawings or, if not shown, in
accordance with "Recommended Locations for Builder's Hardware", published
by Door and Hardware Institute.
A. Shop Paint:
1. Clean, treat and paint exposed surfaces of steel door and frame units.
2. Clean steel surfaces of mill scale, rust, oil, grease, dirt and other foreign
materials before application of paint.
3. Apply shop coat of prime paint of even consistency to provide a uniformly
finished surface ready to receive finish paint.
4. Prior to application of ANY hardware, finish coat shall be SHOP applied
(frames may be field applied), primed with 2 coats of finish paint in accordance
with Division 9 Section “Painting and Coating”. Hardware and doors are not to
be installed until ALL painting has been completed.
PART 3 – EXECUTION
3.1 EXAMINATION
A. Installer must examine substrate and conditions under which steel doors and
frames are to be installed and must notify Contractor in writing of any conditions
detrimental to proper and timely completion of work. Do not proceed with work
until unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected in manner acceptable to
installer.
3.2 INSTALLATION
A. General
1. Install standard steel doors, frames, and accessories in accordance with final
shop drawings and manufacturer’s data, and as herein specified
