Room until the end of the asbestos abatement work, at which time such items shall
be thoroughly cleaned of all asbestos or asbestos-containing material.
E. Provide authorized visitors with suitable protective clothing, headgear, eye
protection and footwear, as described above, whenever they are required to enter
the work area, to a maximum of 4 sets per day.
F. Provide and post, in the Equipment Room and the Clean Room, the
decontamination and work procedures to be followed by workers.
G. Worker Protection Procedures
1. Each worker and authorized visitor shall, upon entering the job site: remove
street clothes in the clean change room and put on a respirator with new
filters, and two (2) sets of clean protective clothing, before entering the work
area.
2. Each worker and authorized visitor shall, each time he leaves the work area:
remove gross contamination from clothing before leaving the work area;
proceed to the first room of the decontamination unit to HEPA vacuum the
outer disposable protective ware and remove that outer layer. Proceed to the
center room, HEPA vacuum the remaining disposable protective ware and
remove that layer. Wet wipe face, respirator and areas of exposed skin.
Remove respirator. Proceed to Clean Room and dress in street clothes.
3. Contaminated work footwear shall be stored in the equipment room when not
in use in the bench area. Upon completion of asbestos abatement, dispose of
footwear as contaminated waste or clean thoroughly inside and out using soap
and water before removing from work area or from equipment and access
area. Store contaminated protective clothing in the equipment room for reuse
or place in receptacles for disposal with other asbestos contaminated
materials.
4. Workers removing waste containers from the equipment decontamination
enclosure shall enter the holding area from outside wearing a respirator and
dressed in clean coveralls. No worker shall use this system as a means to
leave or enter the washroom or the work area.
5. Workers shall not eat, drink, smoke, or chew gum or tobacco at the work site
except in the established clean room.
6. Workers shall be fully protected with respirators and protective clothing
immediately prior to the first disturbance of asbestos-containing or
contaminated materials and until final clean up is completed.
H. Negative Air Pressure
1. Negative air pressure shall be maintained in the asbestos removal areas by an
HEPA filtration system. Negative air pressure will be provided at a rate to
insure that the air in the work area will be exchanged every fifteen (15)
minutes.
