3. Submit proof satisfactory to the Government that all required permits, site
location, and arrangements for transport and disposal of asbestos containing
of contaminated materials, supplies and like have been obtained.
4. Submit to the Contracting Officer a description of the plans for construction of
decontamination enclosure systems and for isolation of the work areas in
compliance with this specification and applicable regulations.
5. Post caution signs in and around the work area as required by Federal, State
regulations.
1.2 PERSONNEL PROTECTION
A. Prior to commencement of work, the workers shall be instructed, and shall be
knowledgeable of all work and safety procedures.
B. Provide workers with personally issued and marked respiratory equipment
approved by NIOSH and OSHA and suitable for the asbestos exposure level in the
work area according to OSHA Standard 29 CFR 1910.1001(f) or applicable
standard. Where respirators with disposable filter are employed, provide sufficient
filters for replacement as required by the worker or applicable regulation.
1. Types of respirators which are to be worn during area preparation and final
clean up, and during removal of floor tile and mastic, shall be as follows:
a. Power Air Purifying (PAPR)
Protection Factor 100
Positive pressure respirator
High Efficiency Filter
Half or full face piece
C. Provide authorized visitors with suitable respirators with new filters or cartridges
whenever they are required to enter the work area, to maximum of 4 per day.
D. Provide workers with sufficient sets of disposable protective full body clothing.
Such clothing shall consist of full body coveralls and headgear. Provide eye
protection and hard hats as required by applicable safety regulations. Nondisposable
type protective clothing shall be left in the Contaminated Equipment
