H. Warning Labels and Signs: As required by OSHA Regulation 29 CFR 1910.1001.
I. Other Materials: Provide all other materials, such as timber, sheathing, nails and
hardware, which may be required to construct and dismantle the decontamination
area and the barriers that isolate the work area.
2.2 TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT
A. Provide suitable tools for asbestos removal.
B. Air movement equipment - High Efficiency Particulate Air Absolute Filtration
Systems shall be equipped with filtration equipment in compliance with ANSI Z 9.2,
Local Exhaust Ventilation. No air movement system shall discharge asbestos
fibers outside the work area. Contractor shall be responsible for any licensing
requirements for negative air system employed.
PART 3 – EXECUTION
3.1 PREPARATION
A. Work Areas
1. Shut down electric power. Provide temporary power and lighting and ensure
safe installation of temporary power sources and equipment per applicable
electrical code requirements and provide 24 V safety lighting and ground-fault
interrupter circuits as power source for electrical equipment.
2. Shut down and isolate heating, cooling, ventilating air systems to prevent
contamination and fiber disposal to other areas of the structure. During the
work, vents within the work area shall be sealed with tape and plastic sheeting.
3. Clean the proposed work areas using HEPA filtered vacuum equipment or wet
cleaning methods as appropriate. Methods that raise dust, such as dry
sweeping or vacuuming with equipment not equipped with HEPA filters shall
not be used.
4. Seal off all openings, including but not limited to doorways, and any other
penetrations of the work areas, with plastic sheeting sealed with tape.
Doorways and corridors which will not be used for passage during work must
be sealed with barriers as described in these specifications.
5. Protection of Surfaces
a. General: Cover floor and wall surfaces in area of ACM removal. Use a
minimum of two layers of 6 mil polyethylene sheeting on the floor and two
layers of 4 mil polyethylene sheeting on the walls. Install sheeting so that
one layer of sheeting on both floor and walls can be removed, leaving one
layer in place for cleaning prior to removal. Isolate all areas not to have
ACM removed until pre-final clean air is achieved.
6. Build airlocks at entrances to and exits from the work areas.
