5.21 OTHER APPLICABLE CODES OF PRACTICE FOR IN-SITU REINFORCED<br />

CONSTRUCTION :<br />

All other requirements not covered by the above clause shall be<br />

governed by relevant clauses of IS 456, IS 3370, IS 2571 and other<br />

relevant standards as may be applicable.<br />

5.22 PRECAST CONCRETE :<br />

The provision in this section apply to all precast concrete executed<br />

within site and shall be considered supplementary to general provisions<br />

for reinforced concrete <strong>works</strong>.<br />

5.22.1 Handling and Storage :<br />

The precast units shall be stored as directed by the Engineer. The area<br />

intended for the storage of precast units should be surfaced in such a<br />

way that no unequal settlement can occur.<br />

To prevent deformation of slender units, they should be provided with<br />

supports at fairly close intervals and should also be safeguard against<br />

tilting. Lifting and handling positions should conform to the Engineer’s<br />

directions and drawings. In addition, location and orientation marks<br />

should be put on the members as and where necessary. During<br />

erection the precast units should be protected against damage caused<br />

by local crushing, chafing, effects of lifting and transport equipment.<br />

5.22.2 Temporary Supports and Connections :<br />

Temporary supports provided during erection should take into account<br />

all construction loads likely to be encountered during the completion of<br />

joints between any combination of precast and in-situ concrete<br />

structural elements.
