3.7 SLIDES:<br />

If slides occur in the cutting they shall be removed as ordered by the<br />

Engineer. If finished slopes slide into the <strong>road</strong>way before the final<br />

acceptance of the work, such slides shall be removed by the<br />

contractor and shall be paid for at the contract rate for the class of<br />

excavation involved provided the slides are not due to any<br />

negligence of the contactor. The classification of the materials in<br />

slides shall conform to its condition at the time of removal and<br />

payment made accordingly regardless or its prior condition.<br />

Care shall be taken to see that excavation is arranged in a safe way<br />

so that these will be no risk to the work or workmen by slides, falling<br />

materials, boulders and collapsing sides etc.<br />

3.8 PROTECTION:<br />

If there is traffic nearby or if there are towns and villages in the<br />

neighborhood, barricades and/or traffic signals shall be provided<br />

day and night for the duration of the work in such a way as to<br />

prevent accidents. Warning signals shall be displayed at 70m. from<br />

the danger point on both sides to give sufficient warning. If<br />

necessary, signalers shall be stationed at each end to regulate traffic<br />

where it is heavy. Measures shall be taken to see that the excavation<br />

does not affect or damage adjoining structures or property. If there<br />

is damage to property, injury to workers, the members of the public<br />

animals etc. due to the negligence of the contractor, he will be<br />

responsible and liable to all the consequences including<br />

compensation.
