3.2 Diversion:<br />

When the traffic can be allowed on the <strong>road</strong> side berms without much<br />

inconvenience to traffic or impediment to the work, this shall be<br />

provided by the contractor at his own cost. He shall provide the<br />

necessary barricading, warning boards and signals and watchmen by<br />

day and red lights at night and comply with relevant provisions of<br />

specification. Otherwise, a separate diversion shall be provided.<br />

3.3 Construction:<br />

3.3.1 Preparation of sub-grade:<br />

The sub-grade shall be marked by stakes and strings for the required<br />

width for laying of the soling in line, curve, section and grade with<br />

reference to the centre line. The edge line stakes shall be ranged for a<br />

sufficiently long length to obtain straight lengths and uniform curves.<br />

The contractor shall clear off the area and do the necessary trimming<br />

or filling for laying of the soling in line, curves, grades and section. All<br />

fillings shall be watered and compacted to get maximum consolidation.<br />

The camber, super elevation etc. of the sub-grade shall conform in<br />

shape to loose, undulating or uneven, the contractor shall at his own<br />

cost make it up with suitable material, water and compact it and obtain<br />

the correct section. Camber boards shall be used to get the required<br />

section.<br />

3.3.2 Laying soling:<br />

The rubble collected by the <strong>road</strong>side shall be laid with the largest face<br />

downwards and in contact with each other. The stone shall break joint<br />

as far as possible. The full thickness of the soling shall generally be<br />

made with one stone only. The junction of the old <strong>road</strong> and the new
