4.8 FINISHING:<br />

The embankment shall be finished and dressed smooth and even in<br />

conformity with the alignment, levels, cross-sections and dimensions<br />

shown on the drawings with due allowance for shrinkage. On curves,<br />

section shall be provided with super elevation and increased widths as<br />

shown on the plans or directed by the Engineer. All damages caused<br />

by rain, flood or any other reason shall be made good in the finishing<br />

operations. The <strong>road</strong> land which shall be cleared of all debris and<br />

ugly spots near camping areas etc. for which the contractor or his men<br />

were responsible.<br />

4.9 MAINTENANCE:<br />

The contractor shall be responsible for maintaining the bank-work<br />

satisfactorily at his own cost till finally accepted including making good<br />

any damages.<br />

1) Tests shall be made to determine the maximum density of the<br />

material to be used by the Proctor method before starting the<br />

work.<br />

2) Density tests shall be carried out for the bankwork during the<br />

progress of the work. One set of three core samples for every<br />

3,000 sq.m. area of each layer of bank work shall be taken<br />

and tested. The average density shall not be less than 97% of<br />

the Proctor density. A deviation of 80 kg./cu.m. for fine and<br />

160 Kg./cu.m. for coarse grained soils shall be permitted in<br />

dry density in individual sample if the average density reaches<br />

upto 97% Modified Proctor density for each set.
