No. 408 c) The minimum dry film thickness should be ensured atleast on five deformations/ribs over each one metre length of the coated rod. d) The thickness of the coating shall also be measured on the straight length of the bar between the ribs and that also shall not be less than 150 + 25 microns. (b) Continuities of the coating: The coated rod when visually examined should be fairly uniform in thickness and should be devoid of any defects such as cracks, peeling, bulging etc. No surface area should be left uncoated. No rust spot should be visible with the unaided eye. (c) Adhesion of coating: The adhesion of the coating shall be evaluated by mandrel bend test. The coated rods shall be bent around a mandrel through 1800 as per the test procedure-A given in the test procedure. When visually examined with unaided eye there shall not be any cracking or disbanding at the outside radius of the bent bar. (d) Relative bond strength: The relative bond strength of the coated/uncoated bars shall be evaluated by conducting pullout test (three cured coated bars and three uncoated bars) as per the procedure given in BIS 2770-Part I methods of testing bonds in Reinforced Concrete Part I - Pullout test (1967). The average bond strength at 0.25mm slip for coated bar shall not be less than of the uncoated bar.

No. 409 (e) Resistance to applied voltage test: The resistance of the coating against chloride permeation and the film integrity on the rod shall be tested by conducting 2V- Impressed voltage test as per the test procedure – B given in the test procedure. At the end of 1 hour, there shall not be any evaluation of hydrogen gas at the cathode or appearance of corrosion products of iron at the anode. (f) Abrasion resistance: The Abrasion Resistance of the coating by labour abrasion should not be more than 100 mgn/1000 cycles using CS 10 wheel under 1 kg load per wheel (As per test procedure C). (g) Tolerable limit for chloride Tolerable limit for chloride in 0.0.1 N NaOH medium using anodic polarisation technique shall be 10.000 PPM (As per test procedure D). (h) Chemical resistance of coating: The chemical resistance of the coated bar shall be evaluated as per the test procedure- E by partially keeping the coated rods immersed in the following four environments for 45 days. a) 3M NaOH b) 3m CaCI 2 c) Saturated Ca(OH) 2 d) Distilled water At the end of the test period, when visually examined there shall not be any blistering, softening or peeling on the coated rods.
