5.0 MORTAR LINING<br />

The Contractor shall procure mortar lined D.I. Pipes from inside to<br />

prevent corrosion from inside as well as to maintain minimum “C”<br />

valve of 130. the rate for D.I. pipes also includes labour, material,<br />

machinery, cost of SBR ring etc. in carrying out all operation of<br />

mortar lining the pipes. The mortar lining shall conform to ISO<br />

4179. The maximum size of sand shall be 2.5 mm and clay content<br />

should be kept less than 2%. The proportion of cement and mortar<br />

shall be 1:1.<br />

5.1 The pipes and specials before laying shall be brushed internally<br />

through out the length to remove any soil or stones that may have<br />

accumulated therein. Inside of socket and outside of the spigot shall<br />

be thoroughly cleaned.<br />

5.2 The pipes shall be lowered in trenches carefully, in straight and in<br />

full length as far as possible in accordance with IS 12888-1987.<br />

Maximum deviation allowed will be 2 ½ % degree. Where site<br />

condition demand D.I. Pipes and specials shall be allowed to be cut<br />

to the required dimensions with the help of pipe cutting machineries<br />

or by hand as may be directed by the Engineer.<br />

5.3 (A) On lowering the pipe in trenches, they will have to be jointed<br />

by means of styrene butadiene rings (SBR) conforming to<br />

relevant I.S. Code.<br />

(B) Jointing : Before assembling the joint, the spigot of pipe and<br />

the interior of the socket of the adjacent pipe should be<br />

thoroughly cleaned. Insertion of the SBR i.e. (rubber ring)<br />

conforming to IS 5382 & IS 12820 can be facilitated by the<br />

bulb eating inside the socket.
