15.6 Cleaning:
The paint while being applied shall be kept in shallow pans and not in
deep cans and must be kept well stirred. All paint cans must be cleaned
out at the end of each day’s work.
Sturdy scaffolding as necessary shall be provided. Paint workers must
be warned to avoid getting smeared with the paint and all safety
measures shall be provided.
Cleaning operations shall precede painting. The work shall be carried
out in such a manner that dirt and matter removed by the cleaning will
not come in contact with freshly applied paint. The method of
preparing the surfaces for painting shall be as per manufacturers
recommendations.
15.7 Application:
Preferably painting shall be done immediately, after cleaning on the
same day. Paints shall be mixed and applied strictly as per the
manufacturers recommendations. Paints shall not be applied when the
air is misty or atmospheric conditions are such as in the opinion of
Engineer, the conditions are otherwise unsatisfactory for the work. It
shall not be applied upon dump and moist surfaces. Paint shall be
worked into all crevices and corners where possible and surfaces not
accessible to brushes shall be painted by sheep skin or any other
method approved by the Engineer. Painting shall be done in a neat
and workmanlike manner. Paint shall be applied in specified coats as
per the manufacturing recommendations so as to produce a uniform
even coating over the entire surface, free from streaks, pitting, wrinkles
or other irregularities.
