The volume of bank thus calculated shall be reduced by 5 percent for<br />

the purpose of payment when the measurements are taken for<br />

running bills and by 1 percent in final measurements.<br />

If outside materials have been used in the portions of the bankwork<br />

where materials from cutting were to be used the outside material<br />

shall be deemed to have been obtained from the cutting as specified<br />

in those item and paid for under those items only.<br />

The final quantity to be paid for under this item shall be the total<br />

quantity of bankwork reduced by 1 percent less the quantity to be<br />

paid for using materials from cutting.<br />

5.0 GRANULAR SUB-BASE<br />

5.1 SCOPE:<br />

5.2 MATERIALS:<br />

This work shall consist of laying and compaction well-graded material<br />

on prepared subgrade in accordance with the requirements of these<br />

<strong>specifications</strong>. The material shall be laid in one or more layers as sub-<br />

base and upper sub-base (termed as sub-base hereinafter) as<br />

necessary according to lines, grades and cross- sections shown on the<br />

drawings or as directed by the Engineer.<br />

5.2.1 The material to be used for the work shall be natural sand, murum,<br />

gravel, crashed stone or combination thereof depending upon the<br />

grading required. Materials like crushed slag, crushed concrete, brick<br />

metal and kankar may be allowed only with the specific approval of the<br />

Engineer. The material shall be free from organic or other deleterious<br />

constituents and conform to one of the three grading given in Table-1.
