50. FORM WORK<br />

a) Material<br />

All form work for concrete <strong>works</strong> shall be made either of planed<br />

and matched timber or M.S. plates. The timber for the form work<br />

shall be hard wood dry and well seasoned. It shall not be so dry<br />

as to absorb water from concrete nor shall it be so green as to<br />

shrink after erection. When steel plates are used for forms, the<br />

plates shall be free from wrinkles, dents, lumps or other<br />

imperfections. The timber boards or steel plates shall have<br />

sufficient thickness to withstand the construction loads and the<br />

pressure exerted by the wet concrete as well as vibration during<br />

placing of concrete. Normally the thickness shall not be less than<br />

38mm for timber and 18 gauge 18 M.S. Plates. However, in<br />

case where depth of concrete to be poured in the formwork is<br />

small, the thickness of timber planks may be reduced in<br />

consultation with the Engineer.<br />

b) All forms shall conform to the shape, lines, dimensions as shown<br />

on the plans of the concrete members. The form <strong>works</strong> shall<br />

include all wedging, bracing, tierod, clamps, stop of boards and<br />

other devices necessary to mould the concrete to the desired<br />

shape. The formwork shall be so constructed as to remain<br />

sufficiently rigid during the placing and compacting of the<br />

concrete and shall with-stand the necessary pressure, ramming<br />

and vibration without any deflection from the prescribed lines and<br />

curves. It shall be properly strutted tight to prevent loss of liquid<br />

slurry from the concrete. It shall be strongly and firmly erected.<br />

The mould shall be planed smooth, free from knots, holes, open<br />

joints and other imperfection. The use of bolts passing through
