19.2 Materials:<br />

19.3 Construction<br />

Steel bar reinforcement and wire shall comply with specification. The<br />

diameter of the bars shall be as shown in the working drawings.<br />

Cement concrete for R.C.C. shall comply with specification of controlled<br />

concrete. Proportion of concrete shall be as per mix design. Maximum<br />

size of coarse aggregate for R.C.C. panels and railing shall be 6mm<br />

(about ¼”) and 20mm (about ¾”) for the posts. Mixing the compacting<br />

shall be mechanical at the choice of the contractor subject to the<br />

production of concrete of uniform consistency with all coarse<br />

aggregates entirely covered with cement mortar and a dense concrete<br />

with good cast finish to the surfaces.<br />

The R.C.C. parapet shall be constructed as per detailed drawing after<br />

the centering of decking is removed.<br />

The R.C.C. parapet of the type mentioned in the item shall be built in<br />

between cast-in-situ R.C.C. posts to correct shape, dimensions and<br />

spacing specified on the drawings. The steel bar reinforcement of the<br />

posts shall be provided as specified and shown in the drawings and<br />

spliced to the bars protruding from the slab or the kerb.<br />

The concrete shall be cast to the shapes, sizes and spacings shown on<br />

drawings. The forms shall be such as to given the exact shape to the<br />

concrete members shown in the drawings or ordered by the Engineer.<br />

Cast-in-situ posts, panels and rails shall be plastered neatly with<br />

cement mortar of 1:3 mix to 5mm. (about ¼”) thickness and finished to<br />

smooth or sand face as ordered by the Engineer. Plastering shall be<br />

done immediately after and within one day of stripping the forms after<br />

roughening the concrete suitably. The plaster and concrete shall be well<br />

cured for 14 days.
