Compaction of 40 mm size metal:<br />

The surface of 40mm metal layer after brought to necessary grades<br />

sections shall be rolled with the use of vibratory roller. Rolling shall<br />

commence from the edges and progress towards the center<br />

longitudinally except super elevated portion it shall progress from the<br />

lower to upper edge parallel to the centre line of pavement. When the<br />

roller has passed over the whole area as prepared once, any high<br />

spots or depressions which become apparent shall be corrected by<br />

removing or adding aggregates. The rolling shall then continued till the<br />

entire surface has been rolled to desired compaction such that there is<br />

no crushing of aggregates and all roller marks have been eliminated.<br />

The each pass of roller shall uniformly overlap not less than one third<br />

of the track made in the preceding pass.<br />

9.6.2 Spreading of 20 mm size metal :<br />

20mm size crushed metal shall be spread evenly at the rate of 1.5 Cum<br />

per 100 sq.mt. of area over the 40mm size hand broken metal.<br />

9.6.3 Compaction after spreading of 20 mm size metal :<br />

The surface of 20 mm metal layer after brought to necessary grades<br />

and sections shall be rolled with the use of 8 to 10 vibratory roller.<br />

Rolling shall be commence from the edges and progress towards the<br />

centre longitudinally except on super edge parallel to the centre line of<br />

pavement. When the roller has passed over the whole area as<br />

prepared once, any high spots or depressions which become apparent<br />

shall be corrected by removing or adding aggregates. The rolling shall<br />

then continued till the entire surface has been rolled to desired<br />

compaction such that there is no crushing of aggregates and all roller<br />

marks have been eliminated. The each pass of roller shall uniformly<br />
