No. 520 PARTICULAR SPECIFICATIONS (WATER SUPPLY) 1.0 EXCAVATION OF TRENCHES : For laying underground pipeline, trenches shall be excavated by the contractors whenever necessary and as directed by the engineer. If for any reason, the dimensions of the trenches are required to be altered from the normal section specified, either to suit the particular site conditions or form any special work, the same shall be done after obtaining permission of the engineer. Depth of trench would generally, be 1.0 metre but may vary to suit the level and grade of pipeline. When the pipeline is under a roadways, a minimum cover of 0.9 metre is to be kept. The width of trenches for pipeline shall be generally restricted to the width shown in the table below.
