10.4 CONSTRUCTION OPERATIONS
10.4.1 Weather and seasonal limitations:
Laying shall be suspended while free-standing water is present on the
surface to be covered or during rain, fog and dust stones. After rain,
the bituminous surface, prime or tack coat, shall be blown off with a
high pressure air jet to remove excess moisture or the surface left to dry
before laying shall start. Laying of bituminous mixtures shall not be
carried out when the air temperature at the surface on which it is to be
laid is below 10 o C or when the wind speed at any temperature exceeds
40 km/h at 2m height unless specifically approved by the Engineer.
10.4.2 Preparation of base :
The base on which Dense Graded Bituminous Material is to be laid
shall be prepared in accordance with Clauses 501 and 902 as
appropriate or as directed by the Engineer. The surface shall be
thoroughly swept clean by a mechanical broom, and the dust removed
by compressed air. In locations where mechanical broom cannot
access, other approved methods shall be used as directed by the
Engineer.
10.4.3 Geosynthetics:
Where Geosynthetics are specified in the Contract this shall be in
accordance with the requirements stated in Clause 703 of MORT&H
specifications.
10.4.4 Stress absorbing layer:
Where a stress absorbing layer is specified in the Contract, this shall be
applied in accordance with the requirements of Clause 522 of
MORT&H specifications.
