During the period of the test the out side trench shall be kept free<br />

from any accumulation of subsoil water. In case of a drop of more<br />

than 50 mm in the water level, the contractor shall note the places<br />

from where the leakage is taking places and take step to stop the<br />

leakage.<br />

31.0 INSPECTION OF THE JOINTS<br />

After the joints of any pipes in underground <strong>works</strong> have thoroughly<br />

set the Engineer (or any person whom he may appoint) may inspect<br />

the joints and if he has any doubt as to their soundness he may<br />

required the contractor to cut open and clean away the cement or<br />

lead as the case may be of any joint, that he may select and to make<br />

good the same at their expense provided that unless defect to be<br />

found, they shall not be required to open more than one joint in 20<br />

M of pipe though if the defect be found the Engineer may direct<br />

them to open as many joints as be may seem necessary.<br />

32.0 CLEANING OF THE PIPES<br />

a) As soon as a stretch of pipes whether of stoneware or cast iron or<br />

R.C. pipes has been laid complete from manhole, the contractor<br />

shall run through the pipes both backwards and forwards a double<br />

disc or solid or closed cylinder 75 mm less in diameter than the<br />

internal diameter of the pipes. The open end of an incomplete<br />

stretch of pipe line shall be securely closed as may be directed by the<br />

Engineer to prevent entry of mud or silt etc.<br />

b) If, as a result of the removal of the obstruction, the Engineer<br />

considers that damages may have been caused to the pipe he shall<br />

be entitled to order the length to be retested at the expense of the
