ABSTRACT<br />

The aim of this study is to solve the problem of the absence of a managerial<br />

information system to consolidate and, therefore, better control the domestic financial<br />

trades executed by the Products and Services area employees of the Wealth<br />

Management Department of the financial institution UBS Pactual. The strategic role<br />

played by Information Technology (IT) as its effectiveness in the organization are<br />

measured as a subside in building a theoretical reference frame to help indicating<br />

alternatives to solve the identified problem. A product that could solve such a<br />

problem not only in an operational way, but also with holistic considerations is the<br />

unfolded aim of this study. In order to obtain a wide pool of points of view, a<br />

pluralistic research is carried out in a way that general concepts of IT and competitive<br />

strategy are considered. The available literature on the strategic role of IT, strategic<br />

management of IT and IT effectiveness analysis are revisited. In this scope, the<br />

MAN/TI-2 method is put to use to analyze the IT in the studied organization and to<br />

subside a following MAVE/TI analyze. In the MAVE/TI method, the AHP technique is<br />

used to select the best proposed alternative to solve the identified problem. The<br />

default process Praxis 2.0 is also put to use to propose a specification and to specify<br />

the requisites of the chosen alternative. This study also weighs the constraints of the<br />

employed methods and discuss the acquired results, besides commenting on the<br />

implementation of the proposed solution.<br />
