Working in the field of textile printing techniques has been promising.
Textile printing seems to be an interesting and usable complement to the
usage of the natural dyes. Already during this first year of the activity in
our project, we have been teaching this technique to many eager and
satisfied course participants.
In the Natural Dyes Product Research and Development Project we
are aiming to research and develop natural dye textile printing techniques
further on. For the meanwhile we use hand printing-technique,
but later on we are aiming to develop an industrial procedure. We will
start this work co-operating with some companies in Finland which work
in the field of industrial textile printing.
Natural dyes printing technique is:
- a direct printing technique
- suitable for mordant dyes and natural fibres
- simple and economical to practise
- lifelike and ecological
The natural dyes printing technique step by step:
- making the dyebath from the dye plants or from extraction
- adding helping agents:
- mordant to fix the dye to the fibre
- urea to give the moisture needed during the process
- adding the thickening agent to turn the liquor into the printing
paste
- printing
- steaming
- washing away the non-fixable dye and thickening agent from the
printed fabric
