The collation <strong>of</strong> staff demographics also included the length <strong>of</strong> time staff had<br />

been assigned to the unit (Charts 5.5 and 5.6).<br />

5.3.4.1 Healthcare Assistants’ Length <strong>of</strong> Time Assigned to the Unit<br />

The majority <strong>of</strong> HCA staff were also the longest working on the research unit<br />

with four HCAs employed there for 6-8 years and four HCAs working there for<br />

9-12 years. Two HCAs had worked on the research unit for 3-5 years. One HCA<br />

had recently joined the team (Figure 5.1).<br />

5.3.4.2 Nursing Staff Length <strong>of</strong> Time Assigned to the Unit<br />

Similar to the HCAs, four nurses had also worked on the research unit for 9-12<br />

years (including the clinical nurse manager 2). Five nurses had worked there for<br />

6-8 years and four for 3-5 years. Three nurses had worked for 1-2 years on the<br />

research unit (including the clinical nurse manager 1) and there were a number <strong>of</strong><br />

new nursing staff to the research unit (four nurses had worked there for less than<br />

a year)(Figure 5.2).<br />
