5.7.6 Element 6: Open and Respectful Communication and Sharing
Information
This was judged to be evident if there were comments that revealed power
sharing and negotiation between residents and staff and information sharing
about health and well-being
Analysis of the notes revealed that evidence of sharing information or negotiated
care was not evident in 91% (n=35) of the documentation (Chart 5.14). There
was some evidence in 9% (n=3) of notes and one example of this was the
documented advice given to a resident about the benefits of making alterations to
her wheelchair.

It was revealed that residents’ capacity to receive information and engage in open
and respectful communication was not assessed for each individual situation:
“Unable to make decisions.”
