and Sjoberg (1991) suggested that while proponents <strong>of</strong> multiple case studies may<br />

argue for replication, using more than one case may dilute the importance and<br />

meaning <strong>of</strong> the single case.<br />

In summary, the methodology chosen for phase one <strong>of</strong> this research was a single<br />

(one residential unit) exploratory embedded (the contextual issues) case (resident<br />

autonomy) study (Figure 3.2).<br />
