ecame. Worry <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> fear were now added to my anger at <strong>the</strong><br />

pigs. I was miserable <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> soaking wet, <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> this made me cry.<br />

"What shall I do now? I lost my family's pigs," I said to<br />

<strong>the</strong> cow herder, when I emerged from <strong>the</strong> forest. He was sitting<br />

by a fire under a big tree <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> had not gotten wet from a single<br />

drop of water.<br />

"K<strong>on</strong>dro, come here. Oh my! Look at you! Dry your<br />

clo<strong>the</strong>s first," said <strong>the</strong> herder, ignoring my questi<strong>on</strong>.<br />

"No, I must go home <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> tell Fa<strong>the</strong>r, or we'll never find<br />

our pigs," I said, grabbing my dust stained bag, ready to start<br />

back.<br />

"No, K<strong>on</strong>dro. D<strong>on</strong>'t worry. Your pigs surely went<br />

straight back to your home," said <strong>the</strong> herder. "They are timid<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> w<strong>on</strong>'t linger <strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong> way. They w<strong>on</strong>'t go anywhere else."<br />

I did not listen <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> ran home. Meanwhile, <strong>the</strong> rain<br />

stopped – it had <strong>on</strong>ly been a shower. Before I got home, all <strong>the</strong><br />

pigs had returned except for <strong>on</strong>e. Fa<strong>the</strong>r was about to come to<br />

<strong>the</strong> pasture to look for me when I arrived. As so<strong>on</strong> as he saw<br />

me, he said, "Thank <strong>the</strong> Three Jewels! You came back. I was<br />

worried. Let's change your clo<strong>the</strong>s," <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>the</strong>n he carried me into<br />

our home. These simple words impressed me profoundly by<br />

showing a fa<strong>the</strong>r's real love for his s<strong>on</strong>.<br />

As Fa<strong>the</strong>r was helping me change clo<strong>the</strong>s I said, "Fa<strong>the</strong>r,<br />

I'm sorry. I didn't herd <strong>the</strong> pigs well."<br />

Fa<strong>the</strong>r replied, "No, dear s<strong>on</strong>, it's good you returned. I<br />

d<strong>on</strong>'t care about <strong>the</strong> pigs. You're everything to me. I can never<br />

lose any of my children. I was worried you would be terribly<br />

cold."<br />

The o<strong>the</strong>r pig returned later that night. Herding pigs in<br />

rainy wea<strong>the</strong>r is difficult. If <strong>the</strong> wea<strong>the</strong>r is good, it is fun to herd<br />

<strong>the</strong>m. I was kind to <strong>the</strong>m <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>the</strong>y were not afraid of me. When<br />

<strong>the</strong>y got tired, we rested toge<strong>the</strong>r <strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong> pasture. I scratched<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir legs with my sharp nails when <strong>the</strong>y had an itch. If I called<br />

<strong>the</strong>m, <strong>the</strong>y came <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> lay near me so I would scratch <strong>the</strong>ir itches.<br />

Their oinks expressed how comfortable <strong>the</strong>y were. They<br />

followed me everywhere I went <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> I felt like <strong>the</strong>y were my<br />

friends. If you talk to pigs, <strong>the</strong>y will communicate with you, <str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

you can underst<str<strong>on</strong>g>and</str<strong>on</strong>g> each o<strong>the</strong>r. It is communicati<strong>on</strong> between<br />

two hearts. Feelings can be expressed in ways o<strong>the</strong>r than using<br />

words.<br />
