György Dragomán se je rodil leta<br />

1973 v Marosvásárhelyju v Romuniji.<br />

Leta 1988 se je z družino pre selil na<br />

Madžarsko. Študiral je angleščino in<br />

filozofijo v Budimpešti, kjer živi še<br />

danes. Je pisatelj in prevajalec iz angle- angle-<br />

ščine, ki je izdal dva romana: A pusztítás<br />

könyve (Knjiga uničenja, 2002),<br />

za katerega je prejel nagrado »Sándor<br />

Bródy« (2003) za najboljši madžarski<br />

prvenec leta, in A fehér király (Beli kralj,<br />

2005), mednarodno knjižno uspešnico,<br />

ki je avtorjevo ime ponesla po svetu<br />

in bila prevedena v več kot trideset<br />

jezikov. Za omenjeni roman je avtor<br />

prejel nagrado »Sándor Márai«, najprestižnejše<br />

madžarsko odli kovanje za književnost.<br />

Delo je pri založbi Didakta leta<br />

2007 izšlo v slovenskem prevodu Jožeta<br />

Hradila. Kot plodovit književni prevajalec<br />

je najbolj znan po prevodih avtorjev<br />

z angleškega govornega področja,<br />

kot sta James Joyce in Samuel Beckett.<br />

György Dragomán was born in 1973<br />

in Marosvásárhely, Romania . In 1988,<br />

he and his family moved to Hungary .<br />

He studied English and philosphy in<br />

Budapest, where he still lives to this day .<br />

The novelist and translator from the<br />

English has published two novels: A pusztítás<br />

könyve (Genesis Undone, 2002),<br />

for which he won the Sándor Bródy Prize<br />

(2003) for the best Hungarian debut<br />

book of the year; and A fehér király (The<br />

White King, 2005), an international<br />

bestseller which has earned him worldwide<br />

acclaim, having been translated<br />

into more than thirty languages, and<br />

for which he received a string of awards,<br />

among them the Sándor Márai Prize<br />

(2006) – Hungary’s highest literary honour<br />

. It was also translated into Slovene<br />

by Jože Hradil and published by the<br />

Didakta Publishing House in 2007 .<br />

A prolific literary translator, he is best<br />

known for his translations of works by<br />

English speaking authors such as James<br />

Joyce and Samuel Beckett .
