100TRAVEL$ENSEThis category does not include any consideration for time on site or extra timeon site, only time spent traveling. The true cost of employee travel time iscalculated only during business hours with additional costs included for afterhours travel only if the After Hour Travel Time Valuation has been set higherthan 0.Offsetting Value of Productive Time EnrouteFor all columns, this represents a positive return to the company for the valueof productive time utilized aboard aircraft for all passengers on all legs. This is calculated based upon the amount of time each passenger spends inflight on each leg minus the unproductive Leg Dead Time for airline or businessaircraft on each leg, times the hourly compensation rate for individualpassengers on the trip leg incorporating their multipliers, times the user-definedestimates of the productivity possible for that environment (set separately forairline jet and turboprop aircraft in the Defaults, Airline, and individually forbusiness aircraft in the aircraft database). One paradox of this calculation is that slower aircraft, because they forcelonger enroute times in a productive business environment, can generate higherproductivity gains. This gain can be offset, however, by lower productivityenroute, longer overall trips (which can result in the loss of ordinary, non-traveloffice hours due to extended travel) or higher Non-Business Hours Away FromHome tallies. Drive time productivity, if valued, also is included here.Total True Trip CostsThe total of the four categories described immediately above. Note that theOffsetting Value of Productive Time Enroute is the only positive value on theTab, and as all other values on this Tab represent costs or a negative charge tothe company, the Offsetting Value of Productive Time Enroute typically is listedin parentheses, and consequently displays inversely as a positive.Non-Business Hours Away From HomeFor all columns, Travel$ense tracks both the quantity and quality of businesstravel time, door to door, for every passenger on every leg of the trip.Employee travel time which takes place before or after normal business hoursfor a trip, where normal business hours are defined individually by/for eachpassenger, are counted and totaled for all passengers in this category at thebottom of Tab 4.Copyright © 1999, National Business Aviation Association, Inc.
