158TRAVEL$ENSE• time saved by scheduling trips according to business needs rather thanairline schedules,• scheduling flexibility,• time saved because of operational reliability,• avoided costs of alternate transportation modes,• enhancement of mental performance and physical endurance,• increased work productivity while enroute,• transportation of company mail and cargo.In addition, studies have identified the following “intangible” benefits of businessaviation – those benefits that cannot always immediately be valued:• business opportunities that otherwise would have been missed, but for theuse of a business aircraft;• flexibility of routing and scheduling that permits more efficient use ofexecutive time;• enhancement of customer relations resulting from closer personal contact,faster response to problems, efficient transportation to company andindustry functions, expedited services and increased marketing impact;• contribution to entrepreneurship by aiding in coordination of decentralizedoperations and product promotion;• Improved acquisition and retention of key personnel because executivesrecognize the value of effective use of business aircraft;• support of community service programs through selective use of businessaircraft in facilitating emergency services, special events and charitabletransportation.Detailed analyses of individual operations will identify other intangible benefitsaccording to the objectives and nature of each company. Although theseintangible benefits often are difficult to quantify, they foster direct and indirectfinancial gains of prime importance to the full success of a business.Each of these qualitative benefits are demonstrated by testimony of seniorexecutives from a variety of industries that utilize business aircraft.FLIGHT TIME SAVINGSThe calculation of flight-time savings depends on the category of aircraftutilized, such as executive flights, shuttle service and helicopter, or person-bypersonbasis.
