192CAN I SELECT ANY AIRLINE CITY PAIR?TRAVEL$ENSEAbout 99.9 percent of the time. Reservation systems have a limit of threeconnecting flights per leg. If you are traveling between obscure cities withoutdaily airline flights, the system may not be able to define a comparable airlinetrip within this three connecting flight limit. Consequently, you may not be ableto obtain scheduling or pricing information for the trip and will get a messageto that effect from Travel$ense. Reselecting a larger commercial airport fromthe list of nearby airports usually will solve this problem. From the ComparableAirline Trip tab (Tab 2), click on “Clear,” then “Cancel.” Select alternateairports from Tab 1 by clicking on airports and then click on “Get Fares” again. Some unaffiliated commuter carriers not included in the CRS listings obviouslywill not be reported as a travel alternative. More than 900 airlines are availableand prices can be obtained using the default settings of Travel$ense, which willlook up current fares based on seat availability shown for any carriers thatotherwise can not be bought as part of an airline ticket (new in Release 3).Users manually may input an airline flight not in the CRS, or use hypotheticalairline data, if they wish.CAN TRAVEL$ENSE INCORPORATE NEGOTIATED OR CONTRACTAIRLINE FARES?Although Travel$ense automatically can retrieve full fare coach, first class andthe lowest available fares for airline flights comparable to flights on businessaircraft, many companies have discounted or group rates with the airlines. These rates can change or be limited to certain city pairs, or the best airlineoptions ordinarily can include two or more different airlines. Consequently, thedetermination of an actual airline ticket fare often is difficult to accomplishautomatically and the pricing can become relatively complex. Travel$enseincludes the ability to price an airline itinerary manually, thereby allowing usersto price a trip using contract pricing structures unique to their company. Simplyclick on the “Edit Fare” button on the Comparable Airline Trip tab to edit faresat any time, before or after the trip. For more information, see Edit Airline Fares on page 88.HOW DO I STOP TRAVEL$ENSE FROM INVOKING AN OVERNIGHT STAYON AN AIRLINE TRIP?The situation:The situation: You go out and back on the business aircraft in a single day. When getting comparable airline flights, Travel$ense either invokes an overnightthe night before or returns the next morning, depending on the time priority(arrival or departure) of each leg. You know there are airline flights that can getyou out and back on the same day. Why did Travel$ense do this and how doyou change it?Copyright © 1999, National Business Aviation Association, Inc.
