TRAVEL$ENSETime Saved vis-à-vis Airline Trip Cycle Baseline105Travel$ense analyzes travel (i.e., physical movement) in all cases except this one.For this calculation, Travel$ense analyzes a trip in its entirety, looking not only attime during travel but also at time on site as well as extra time on site requireddue to airline schedules. The airline trip cycle – the comparable airline trip frombeginning to end – is the baseline from which these calculations are derived. One of the most complex and valuable calculations Travel$ense accomplishes isthe determination of productive hours saved vis-à-vis all the travel options (oneto three business aircraft and the airlines). Travel$ense usually calculates costsrelative to travel only – or viewed another way, costs affiliated with physicalmovement only – including time spent moving from city to city, starting whenyou leave and ending when you reach your destination, repeating this count foreach leg of each trip. For Productive Hours Saved, time that falls within business hours within a tripis counted as either nonproductive, partially productive or fully productive, based upon on the assumptions incorporated into the program. Time that fallsoutside business hours is valued only if it occurs during travel itself, and thenonly if the Non-Business Hour Travel Time Valuation has been set to apercentage above 0. Based upon these user-defined assumptions, a count ofproductive time during any given trip can be calculated and compared to thebaseline established by the airline alternative.Sleeping time is never valued. It is counted as non-business hours away fromhome. Three different measures are given in this section:Productive Hours SavedProductive Hours Saved compares the productive time vis-à-vis the airline tripcycle between the business aircraft trips and the airline trip. This is the truecost of employee time based on individual compensation rates.Productivity is compared between the airline baseline and the business aircraftcolumns. The airline baseline begins tracking time when the airline passengersleave home and ends when the airline passengers return home on a tripaccomplished via the airlines. The relative productivity is measured for alloptions during this time period. If the business aircraft leaves later and/orreturns earlier, then the extra time working during business hours in the officeis calculated. Extra airline time on site is given its unique valuation as defined inCopyright © 1999, National Business Aviation Association, Inc.
