TRAVEL$ENSEavailability of business aircraft, and in more than one instance a promisingcandidate has been swayed by whether a company plane would be available –or where the best company plane would be available.Availability of a business aircraft to provide effective air transportation forpersonnel can be financially self-supporting. Attraction and retention of keypersonnel is simply a plus. This plus, however, can be of primary importancewith respect to the success of a business enterprise. It is well known that thechief executive officer can make the difference between failure and success orbetween mediocre results and outstandingly good results. Likewise, supportingofficers and key professional personnel can make substantial differences in thefinancial results of their respective business enterprises. Those factors thatinfluence the employment decisions of potential or current supporting officersand key personnel are important for corporate financial success. Quite often,the availability of business aircraft is one of the determining factors regardingexecutive placement and retention.COMMUNITY SERVICESuccessful businesses have long recognized the benefits of providing distinctivecommunity services. The airplane represents a highly effective means forproviding several categories of service. There are several examples ofcommunity service provided by business aircraft.• The Corporate Angel Network (CAN) is a philanthropic organization thatobtains extra seats on flights to transport cancer patients to and fromtreatment centers for free.• Business aircraft transport handicapped participants in the Summer SpecialOlympics for the Handicapped.• Companies also donate the resources of their flight departments fordisaster-relief efforts.Possibly even more important than the wonderful help to the patients andathletes is the thought-provoking potential. There are opportunities for allbusiness aircraft operators to employ their aircraft to help their community ondays when no business trip is required or when aircraft utilization is sufficientlylow.CONTRIBUTION TO ENTREPRENEURSHIP155A business aircraft provides a new dimension of opportunity for a dynamicentrepreneur.
