casual conversation with others. It may be accompanied by motor movements, such as

shaking of lips or face and eye blinks.

2.1.4 Social communication disorder (SCD)

Social communication disorder (SCD) is characterized primarily by deficits in

pragmatics which is the area of linguistics that has to do with how meaning is created

and interpreted in verbal and nonverbal communication. Children with this disorder

have difficulties adjusting their behavior to social context. They are unable to match

their communication with listener’s needs.

Meanwhile, they have troubles understanding implicit meanings such as those

used of humor and metaphors. Social communication disorder will cause children with

this disorder have difficulties following the ordinary conventions of taking turns when

speaking.

If a child able to grasp multiple communication and linguistic skills, but it

seems difficult to apply these skills in certain social situations, they may be suffering

from SCD. A child who has SCD would have a delay in reaching language milestones

and lack of interest in social interaction. They rarely begin a social interaction with

others or giving respond abnormally when they are forced to social. Social

communication disorder could affect various types of verbal and nonverbal

communication such as gesture, written, spoken and sign language.

2.1.5 Unspecified Communication Disorder (UCD)

DSM-5 showed that unspecified communication disorder diagnosis assigned to

individual who are experiencing symptoms of communication disorder. The

unspecified communication disorder category is used in situations in which the

clinician chooses not to specify the reason that the criteria are not met for

communication disorder or for a specific neurodevelopmental disorder.
