The Statistical Laboratory and Computing Center conducts research in the<br />
development <strong>of</strong> new statistical and numerical procedures and provides a consulting<br />
service for graduate students and members <strong>of</strong> the faculty in the fields <strong>of</strong> statistical<br />
and numerical analysis. The Computing Center maintains an IBM 1620 electronic<br />
computer, which is available to the faculty and students <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong> for research<br />
and instruction. The staff provides instruction in programming for the 1620<br />
computer. Users <strong>of</strong> the computer provide necessary programs and are responsible<br />
for the actual running <strong>of</strong> the computer. Technical assistance concerning programming<br />
and computer operation is available. Courses in computing, statistical<br />
analysis, and numerical analysis are <strong>of</strong>fered as part <strong>of</strong> the curriculum <strong>of</strong> the<br />
Department <strong>of</strong> Mathematics.<br />

The Institute <strong>of</strong> International Studies and Overseas Administration is responsible<br />
for the development and coordination <strong>of</strong> <strong>University</strong> activities in the<br />
field <strong>of</strong> international atTairs. Its primary functions are: (1) to develop programs<br />
<strong>of</strong> research, teaching, and administration, in cooperation with private and governmental<br />
agencies, and to arrange for the conduct <strong>of</strong> these programs by <strong>University</strong><br />
personnel, both on the campus and overseas; (2) to assist the Committee on<br />
International Studies and Overseas Administration in the administration <strong>of</strong><br />
graduate study in international affairs and to provide research training for<br />
graduate students; and (3) to serve as the <strong>University</strong>'s center for other faculty<br />
and student activities concerned with international affairs.<br />
The Institute supervises a graduate study program leading to the Master <strong>of</strong><br />
Arts in international studies (a two-year degree program) and a program leading<br />
to the M.A. in overseas administration (a second M.A. conferred in conjunction<br />
with an M.A. degree in a departmental discipline), and cooperates with major de-<br />
